2001 vw jetta 6cyl replaced the pre vcat oxygen sensor and stills runs rough

car had code for pre cat bad, replaced in and car runs rough still.  took off neg battery
cable for 1 hour and engine light went out . start to drive and engine ligkt comes
back on and flashes only if i drive it not when sitting or rpms are up from an idle
