Blown trans?

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

1999 Tahoe 4l60e. Was driving and suddenly
lost all forward and reverse gears after a hill.
The truck would not drive but would barely
creeps if the throttle was feathered and by
creep I mean only foot or so every few
seconds. The fluid is now black and grey
with not really metal flakes. There was no
noises or signs of failure before it happened
and there are also no trouble codes. I put it
in 4lo to get it to creep otherwise it just
didn't have the power so the transfer case is
fine. The rear end is fine. I removed the trans
and tested the stator in the torque converter
with a piece of metal and it still only turn one
direction( clockwise I think). What could
have gone wrong?

That wasn't helpful at all. I'm rebuilding this myself so I need to know what might have went wrong. I tore the trans apart and inspected it and everything seems okay. The clutches and metals don't look burned up. The sun shell and everything seems okay it's not stripped or broken. The shafts look fine. The check balls weren't stuck. I need to know what happened to make it stop working so I know what parts to replace.

Oh and the pump looks good and before pulling it I started the truck and removed the upper cooling line to the radiator to see if it was pumping and it shot fluid out everywhere. So I'm lost.
