Is that with the A/C on? It will automatically kick up when you turn on the A/C, just about that much.

as a 2001 am immediately suspecting a vacuum leak responsible for the higher RPM...hey H25!~

I'd methodically switch all vacuum connections with silicone rubber ones~

at least VW got it right...motor where the horsie should go...not pushin' like the air cooled jobs and not backwards like Saab...I think that you should feel lucky to have a conventional arrangement~

H25, is there an adjustment for this "kick-up" or an RPM required to make sure the A/C is ABLE to do the job?...no choices given....they're takin' away our choices, man...the last 20 years the incursion of "the modules"...that a poor native could not service with a soldering iron and parts he bought at radio shack~
Hey yerself there....I don't think there is an adjustment. Pretty soon we won't be allowed to open our own hood the way things are going
