Computer will not connect to my Beetle

Asked by Cindi Sep 02, 2013 at 03:19 PM about the 2004 Volkswagen Beetle GLS 2.0L Convertible

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My check engine light came on and the car started missing so I took it to a local repair
shop and he tried to hook it up to his computer to read the code but it will not connect. He
checked all of the fuses to make sure they were working and they were and he said he
has never had this problem and has no clue what to do. any suggestions?

I did take it somewhere else and the same thing happened the guy hooked it up and it would not do anything he said he has never had that happen before to any car. My car was not communicating with the computer. I was doing some research and saw that some other vw owners were having the same problem and it was caused by the after market radio and also have an after market radio has anyone heard of this before?

if u installed a after market radio that is the problem
