Is it a 4x4 push button activation or shift lever style ? If push button, Is the vacuum unit on the transmission broken on filled with moisture ? Did the vacuum lines to the switch break or come loose ? If its lever activated, Did the linkage come off or get bent that activate the selector ? Did you try shutting the auto off and place the "drive" trans in "N" and then shift the 4x4 trans to 2wd, then roll the auto backwards about 3 feet, place in "P" and restart to see if that works ?
I have a Chevy blazer 1998 and i could not get it to disengage the four wheel drive so I took it to a repair shop and they said that my tyranny component is slipping that's why it will not disengage the four wheel drive. One is that a big problem? Is the other way I can fix it without replacing the whole transmission?
I have a 98 LS 4x4 Blazer that was bought at an action. I also have the push button activation. Under the battery you will find a ACTUATOR DIFFERENTIAL/AXEL OR VACCUM CASE That may need to be replaced. (ACTUATOR 600-102 parts #) And there is an 4WD TRANSFER CASE VACUUM SWITCH that will be located under the drivers side. You can go on youtub to watch a video on how to find and replace these parts. I hope that this was helpful.
