2007 Audi A4 had catastrophic engine failure

Asked by Czech3 Jun 01, 2015 at 11:38 PM about the 2007 Audi A4 2.0T quattro Sedan AWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Had timing belt replaced at 120k miles.  Engine sounded different with a higher pitch or whine.  5,000 miles later the oil light flashes and 2 blocks later the engine is toast.  The mechanic that AAA towed the car to took a couple screws out and thought it was the timing belt.  The Audi dealer said it was the oil pump.  My question is, "does the timing belt run the oil pump on the 2.0 Quattro engine?  If it does, wouldn't the oil light come on if the timing belt failed?"

If you drove it for 5000 miles, then it ran good after the cambelt was replaced- Audis are notorious for blowing up, for whatever reason- your first mistake was thinkin' Audis are cool-

The chain- driven oil pump is part of an assembly with counter balance shafts. If part of this assembly failed, the car nay have starved for oil pressure which would allow the cam tensioner in the cylinder head to lose tension... which could have possibly caused the belt to jump.
