Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I just replaced the ignition
switch on my moms 2000
sc1 after the hit and miss
no crank problem started
yet still its the same
problem . turn the key
every thing lights up but
starter can not turn . the
security light stays off . I
unhooked both cables
from battery before I found
out about t.d.s. and
installed new switch . how
do you know if anti theft is
active and what's actually
wrong with starter and or
wiring ?

Verify that the starter is not the problem. You can remove it and have your local auto parts stores test it.

The problem occurs spuradicly and at first if I wiggled the key while in start position or worked key form off to start repeatedly it would work but not anymore . There is no click under the hood or any where else. When turned to start

If the problem goes away when you wiggle a wire there is a bad connection nearby. The wire itself could be broken inside.

I have had the same problem with my 2001 SL1 for years. Spent lots of money repairing it. I was told by the service manager at Saturn to spray WD-40 to unlock it and it worked. Now the Ignition Switch is broken. Can pull key out of ignition and steering wheel won't lock.
