Irritating rattle

Asked by GuruXCX8 Apr 07, 2017 at 09:06 PM about the 2001 Saturn S-Series 3 Dr SC2 Coupe

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a really bad rattle that is worse when in park, sitting in drive at a light,
and when going in reverse. It sounds like a part of my car is falling apart, it is
near the driver side but doesnt sound like its coming from the engine. I need
help figuring this out.

It probably is coming from a exhaust heat shield, Just have to start from the exhaust manifold and work your way down inspecting the exhaust.

That may be it, We just replaced the fuel pump since the pump and filter are actually in the same area and my car wouldnt start at one point and we replaced it. But I will have to check it out.

Plastic panels are a biggie, both as a big piece that is no longer well attached and as a rigid panel with an unfortunate resonance. That’s why you get noises only in certain gears or certain idle speeds. Pop some panels and buy some big tubes of caulking gun adhesive (and Gorilla Tape).
