Car won't always start why?

Asked by AnitaB321 Feb 14, 2017 at 01:44 PM about the 2002 Saturn S-Series 4 Dr SL1 Sedan

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My car stars fine the first time I start it in a day, but
after I drive it awhile, shut it off and try to restart, it
wont, all the lights and assseries work but it won't
turn over at all, let it sit awhile, like a couple hours
when it's hot outside, then it will start, could this be
a relay problem?

This sounds like a charging system problem. Alternator may be bad. Just stop at a shop or at like Auto Zone and have them check if it is charging. May have to charge your battery up pretty soon. Or if your stuck, find someone to give you a jump to get going.

I would first check the battery connections and make sure they are clean and tight. If the car starts with a jump it is the battery or the alternator.

Check for dirty or loose battery cables including ground cable also check the small wire connection on starter solenoid

I had this 1992 Bonneville and it had its own GM alarm system installed from the factory and the previous owner had installed an extra alarm system like it had two alarms connected to it and ended up screwing around with the body control module and it would do the same thing run for a while then die out and then hard to start I don't know if it's an electronic ignition issue or body control module but you might want to look there if it's an electronic ignition issue then it will have issues starting as well.
