Catalytic converters

Asked by Guru5FD1N Feb 05, 2018 at 02:12 PM about the 2006 Subaru Forester 2.5 X

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

We just bought a 2006 Subaru Forrester
from used car dealership with 212,000km.
The cat converter is defective and causes
the engine light to turn while driving. The
cruise control light also comes on disabling
the cruise control. Took it back to the used
car dealership who said the cat converter
does not effect driving performance  and
can be cleaned by putting in high grade
fuel. They also said the cruise control light
is connected to engine light and this is why
this goes off and will work when the engine
light goes off. It’s not on currently but It
seems a short term solution.. should we
push that they replace the cat? How much
would that cost? Appreciating your
advice..

1 Answer

Replacing the cat is the only thing I recommend. The only true thing they said is about the CC light and CEL being connected.
