Ok as these specially designed (hard to find parts not made any more) top get older you will begin to have issues. I have a 2007. I get the message top not secure alot and it causes problems!. First I disconnected the battery with headlights on but car off, once unplugged the car will drain the last bit of electric out of the system, wait 15 to 30 minutes to make sure. plug up/hook up battery. If it worked the radio will go through a reset pattern, you may get other messages. Then try the top to get it up/closed so you can drive the car in the rain. OK, it did not work? Do you hear the motor for the top running? Will the trunk now lock "going closed" and message says top secure? You will need two people, at least one who is strong. Start car, press the convertible top button, do you hear the motor? the other person needs to be on the passenger side at the rear tire, as soon as the top opens/unlocks slide your fingers under/in the gap and lift, while the 'driver' still has the button pushed... lift the trunk lid all the way up. You are manually assisting the weak hydraulic pump. The trunk lid should lift with you helping, now! the top portion should kick in and start going up. You may have to put it back down and try a couple times took me 3. Get it closed and you may have to open it just a bit and close it a few more times just to get it to lock. The hydraulic fluid in the pump is possible low (behind passenger side carpet trim INSIDE trunk) or the pump has worn our (only junk yard parts are available). NOW there is a cargo top message that may pop up too. The cargo top is the pull back in the trunk and that switch also goes bad and SHORTS out causing many issues.(switch is only available at a junkyard). Pontiac is no longer made and NEW factory parts as super scarce or gone all together for these cars. Mercedes and Chrysler, made convertible hard top and you may get/find a smart mechanic that can retro fit something, but probably not. The Saab and Toyota Solara convertible top parts may work as this was a massive joint project between all of them but ONLY pontiac went with the HARDTOP convertible and HEAVY DUTY parts. The G6 also had an electrical issue with the radio and computer, causing the headlights to burn out or melt the headlight harness (so many headlights I replaced and harness repairs), causing the door locks to pop on/off, dash lights to flicker or just finally go out, causing the radio to malfunction and finally smoke and catch fire. I like mine and have replaced almost the entire front end twice at 179,000 miles. I had to replace the tranny at 100,000 miles. Hope your top issue gets resolved like mine but be wary of putting the top back down until you fix the cargo top switch and check the hydraulic fluid. PS I may have a head gasket leak too mine seeps oil out of the block, oh yes and change the spark plugs and wires if yours is over 150,000 miles it will run so much better. I also have a clearcoat peal issue on the driverside.
