I agree with Jim I have also done that. Also if you have one wrong you will have 2 wrong. Edd
You also may have installed the wires in the wrong rotation. Looking at the cap, if looking clockwise the firing order is 1,8,4,3,6,5,7,2. You may have wired it counter clockwise 1,8,4,3,6,5,7,2..I've done that before until I learned to replace the wires one wire at a time.

What would cause it too smoke or back fire??

so its not sounding like its outta time? its not sounding like the timing chain?'

Why would it jump time tho? It was fine before i did a tune up besides i got bad gas
You test the timing chain for stretching by rotating the crankshaft clockwise using a wrench on the balancer pulley bolt 1 rotation ( to take up any slack in the chain) until the timing mark on the balancer lines up with the '0" on the timing grid. Take off the distributor cap, and start rotating the crankshaft counterclockwise until the distributor rotor just starts to move, then stop turning the crankshaft. Now see where the timing mark on the balancer is pointing to. Anything over 8 degrees on the grid means that the timing chain has stretched enough that it should be replaced. I still contend that the wires were installed incorrectly.
