1998 chev 1500 a/c quit work has freon init
Have you recharged the system and checked for any leaks? Sounds like low or no freon is the problem IF the compressor and clutch are working.
I'm not to clear what your mean by it has "freon init." If it initially had freon in it, does it now? A 16 year old system will lose some freon over the years and when it get low enough, it will stop working. Have an AC tech shop run a diagnostic test for leaks and if it just need to be recharged. If you don't like the answer or cost, you can go to another reputable shop for a second opinion. If both come up with the same issue, go with the one you feel is better suited to fix you problem. Hurry, summer is coming very soon. Like tonight.
Added to the above, if you do need to get recharged, you will need to upgrade to 134 Freon as 12 is not used anymore. The upgrade cost will be a little expensive added to the freon. Worst case... new compressor, clutch, dryer, oil and freon with added kit. That is the worst case.
