I have a problem with the light comming onthe dash

I have a problem with the light commng on where it says  drive  reverse and what gear you are in.I have to maualy shift gears I have put a new  starter and the main wire harness that goes all the way under the dash.Sometimes the light works and sometimes it dosen"t any ideas???

Could you have bumped something when running the other cables thru dash? If so inspect the area you were working in for loose harness connections.

This is the third harness That I have had put in in 2 yrs.We thought there was something wrong with the first two. the first 2 lasted about 9 mths each before the problem returned!! My light on the dash worked for about 3 weeks with this last one.before I started having issues again.I live in a very small town not alot of mech to take it too.So I thought I would see if I could get some ideas here.I realy like my truck would like to fix it!!!

sounds like the shift position isn't being registered. I think its part of the transmission where the large harness plugs into it
