I have a 1995 Chevrolet Cheyenne 1500 4x4 pick up truck with 4 speed automatic transmission. What might be causing it to get up to 35mph and then rev real high and not go any faster? Please help.

You could be just low on trans fluid or the trans could be slipping.
Most common failure is the 3-4 clutches in the trans. It will have 1st and 2nd but just rev when it tries for 3rd. Under normal throttle that should be around 35mph. Time for a rebuild

I added transmission fluid, didn't help. So now than likely needs rebuilt? How bad will that hurt my pocket?
Its an old enough truck that you probably can pick one up at a junkyard fairly cheap. There is a million of those pickups (Chevy & GMC), suburbans, Tahoe's, Yukon's that will interchange with yours. It will be a lot less than having a trans shop rebuild it. Unless you want piece of mind and some warranty.

How much do you think a used one wool cost?
95 is a one off year. No other year 4l60e trans will work right with he computer. It's easier to get it rebuilt. Usually 1200 r&r
Not that Andrew could be wrong but I would call a few junkyards and transmission shops and get there take. Then you know a professionals opinion and your options.

Where did you find info that only a 95 model will work in mine? I havent found that anywhere on the internet.
Any 4l60e will do as long as the bell housing isn't bolt on, must be non removable. For the time being just put the shifter in second and don't try driving on the highway.
You should be able to get a rebuild kit and a good step by step repair manual for under $200. Transmissions are not as easy as rebuilding an engine and they take patience.
