2004 X-Type 3.0 suddenly lost engine power at 55 mph
Asked by Tim Dec 07, 2013 at 08:24 PM about the 2004 Jaguar X-TYPE 3.0L AWD
Question type: Maintenance & Repair
While driving at 55 mph I heard and felt a clunk that caused the car to slow a bit. I looked at the gauges and saw that there were three lights on. The break light, ABS light and a warning light. Also the speedometer and the odometer do not function. The lights are still on and It has a major lack of power like It's In limp mode. Any advice would be much appreciated.

sounds like the battery came disconnected....check all connections for intermittent "floaty" connections there~

I wonder if the Speed Sensor didn't fail... That would throw the ABS and Trac Control systems loopy, would probably explain the speedo/odo, and would put it into limp mode. The clunk *may* have been related, or it may have been a result of the car going into limp mode and locking the torque converter or other such strange behavior...
The speed sensor seems like a good place to start. Where is the speed sensor located?
I would advise to get your ecu codes read by autozone or pepboys , which is free . It would point you to the right direction with which component might be in fault. And get to us we will gladly help out netime.

as many have said - many reasons for the issue, which includes... 1. bad battery 2. bad throttle body sensor 3. water in sensor area for throttle body 4. bad battery connections - corrosion around battery terminal 5. wire harness loose to throttle body or battery 6. dirty throttle body 7. water in sensor area to parking brake sensor in back spare tire area in trunk (for jags) 8. Mass Air Flow sensors dirty or bad
