Car died out on me

Question type: Maintenance & Repair
I recently bought a 2001 saab 93 2 weeks ago. There's a
few things that need to be repaired on it. Since I've bought i
haven't driven it much I'll go out start it and sit in the car
for a minute while it runs. I was doingredients so today and
thee check engine light came on and the car died. I was
able to start it after a few tries. Why do you think my car did
that?

Monica, if the check engine light came on then there should be a code stored in the computer. If you can have it scanned the code should give you a beginning point. If you know someone with a scanner that will read live data, you can plug it in and with the car running it will give you info about the fuel and spark. if it dies you will know which one went away.
Would I be able to go to auto zone and have them check it? I just moved out of state so I literally don't know any one where I live now . Would it even be able to be safe to drive it to auto zone I'm kinda scared to even start it till I can get enough money together to take it to the mechanics

yes, autozone will do it free. If the car has all of its fluids and the brakes work, good battery etc. it should be safe to drive to the store, however, what bugs me is the fact that it died on you. There is really no reason to have the code read unless you have your money together to work on the car. Here is my suggestion, do some research on mechanics in your new home town. your friends and co workers should be able to help you out. when you find one you feel comfortable with, go and talk to him and tell him everything you know about the car. If he is any good, he will make sure it is safe for you to drive to his place of business. Wish I could help you more, let me know how it turns out. Mike.
