TURNING CIRCLE OF MY HUMMER H3

Asked by ashaan May 01, 2013 at 12:21 AM about the 2007 Hummer H3 4 Dr Base

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

To whom it may concern,

Since late I have noticed that my Hummer H3 struggles to take a turn at u turns and
sharp curves. Although I dont feel any steering play or noise from the axel or steering
joint, when turning a tight circle or U Turn the H3 does not move forward. It feels like
the wheels refuse to roll. Please advise.

I have checked and found that there is nothing wrong with the mechanism. How ever have spotted a slight dampness in the power steering oil horse which runs from the fluid tank. The fluid level seems half full. Will try filing the tank up Cheers

If you have a drive lever, put it in two wheel drive.

I had this same problem with my Hummer 3.... ( couldn’t make sharp turns forward or backwards)...I Put extra power steering fluid to full, problem was still there.....Then I realized I had accidentally pushed on the “4WD lock” button....so once I clicked back to “4WD straight”, my problem was solved.....thank God....if I had taken it to the shop they may have charged me an arm and leg for nothing......

LOL....I see most of these are from 7 years ago. I have a 2007 Hummer H3 that I do not drive as much as I used to because it became my secondary vehicle. With that said, I just did a tune up today and new coils. I previously replaced the radiator and had someone else rebuilt the transmission that took a dive at 82,000 miles. It currently has 117,000 miles on it. Now, since I have been working on it and driving it more so I can get it smogged (new battery and all data reset so need 100ish more miles on it) I try to turn the wheel all the way to round out of my driveway onto the street or make a tight turn, it doesn't go all the way. I tested the steering wheel turning it all the way both directions and there is no whining that I can hear. I have not yet changed the drive belt, tensioner (don't know yet if I need to change it), no visible axle issues so I am leaning to replacing the power steering unit since I do see a leak. Is there anything else that might cause not being able to make a hard right hand turn? Even just around a normal street corner or is it most likely attributed to the power steering unit failing? Also, there is fluid in the ps unit. Thank you in advance if anyone sees this post.
