Does 2007 Audi A4 hae auto engine shut down if overheats

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Took my 2007 Audi A4 2.0 Quatro to shop. A/C was not working right. They finally diagnosed it as a fan problem but here's my question. Prior to this the guy says they were letting it run in the shop and after awhile it just shut down. They said that it ran out of gas as it had no fuel pressure when went to re-start it but it had plenty of gas. I think the guy left it running and the fan didn't work so the engine overheated and shut down. Is this reasonable for me to think this and if so could the engine have been damaged as a result.

the engine can be damaged from over heating but most of the newer cars have a safety that shuts the car down once it gets close to an unsafe temperature. So there is likely no damage done to the car. the fan that they were likely talking about i think would be the main blower fan as that would be what controls the air flow for the ac.
