Replacing a Catalytic Converter

Asked by Tj3214 Feb 11, 2019 at 12:53 PM about the 2007 Chevrolet Equinox LS FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I'm trying to replace a bad CAT on my 2007 Chevy Equinox. However, the last
owner of the car welded the ends together where the bolts should be. I'm
worried to try taking it off because if it breaks I will have a more expensive
problem. If I take off the exhaust, am I able to screw in new holes and use that?

I think you should have a muffler shop do the repairs. They may have welded it to prevent theft or it may never have had bolts.
