Was lied to about the mileage
Asked by Hot Wheels Feb 29, 2020 at 04:49 PM about the 2008 Ford Explorer Limited
Question type: Maintenance & Repair
I bought a 2008 Ford Explorer
Limited that supposedly had
117,000.. after taking it to Jiffy
Lube to get an oil change I was
shown that it had about
180,000..went to the car lot I
bought it at and was basically
told "sorry for your bad luck".I
am not done with this car lot..I
just want to get all my ducks in
a row before I go back a make a
scene..cause you better believe
I'm not going away quietly..my
first question is what type of
maintainance is required when
my Explorer reaches 200,000..it
is leaking oil already..radiator is
a mess..(I'm gonna change the
thermostat today)..the drivers
window if not working..
(probably the motor)..i know im
probably screwed...ohh by the
way..the car lot did add a 6
month extended
warranty..which covers the big
stuff..which makes them look
good..but it's not gonna cover all
of the things that are wrong with
it..because "it's normal wear and
tear"..if the vehicle had 117,000
miles on it..all of this "normal
wear and tear" wouldnt be
happening .

2 questions... How didn't you know the milage before buying the vehicle? Wasn't it in the odmeter (right in front of your eyes to see)? What car dealership so we all can avoid it?

I have researched it a little bit. Apparently if a car is 10 years or older the mileage is exempt. So does that give them a right to full a customer like that because it's exempt? Doesn't seem fair or legal
Do you have the mile claim in writing? If not I think you are out of luck.

The odometer had117,000 on it that's what I saw when I bought the vehicle. It was only after taking it to get an oil change that I realize that this vehicle has been in to get a oil change with a 180000 miles on it.
How didn't you know how many miles were on the vehicle before you bought it??
If the odmeter read 117,000 how does Jiffy Lube know it has 180,000 miles?
If the odometer was tampered with you have a case. Was there a CarFax on this car? Check the paperwork on the car, does it say 117,000 miles?

The paperwork says "EXEMPT"..on the area where the mileage is listed..my wife is gon a get it and I'll take a pic of it...as far as how did jiffy lube know??...when they put in the information of my vehicle their readout will show every single time that a vehicle has been in for an oil change.well apparently my vehicle was in for an oil change at 188,000...and maybe 4 more times before..chronologically right...im gonna go back to jiffy lube and request a duplicate copy..cause apparently my organizational skills are terrible..cause I can't find my copy

Heres an update...im changing the thermostat..and the one I took out goes on a thunderbird 3.9L..so apparently the origional motor 4.0L V-6 was a lie as well.. So I think it's best that I not say very much more because Monday I will be consulting with a lawyer about the car lot (Affordable Auto Concepts in Cleburne Texas 76033)..I need to know what my rights are as a consumer concerning mis representation of a dealer while selling a caz

Update I typed in the vin # on Google search..and it brought up a page that showed it was bought in 2017 at a car lot (I won't say the name out of respect)..i then used Google maps to locate the car lot. The search provided an address and a phone number..i called and spoke with a gentleman that stated "yes we sold that vehicle...and it had 144,644 miles..luckily I have 1 piece of paper that I signed stating that the vehicle I bought had 123,446 miles..my very next move was to call the Texas State Bar and get a referral for a lawyer that would handle a case such as mine. After speaking to the lawyer he said I definitely have a case!! I will try to keep this forum updated as we move forward from here..I hope this information helps others that might find themselves in the same position as I am in at this moment..Btw I did not run a carfax..i simply typed in my vin # on Google and all the info I needed was there...FREE of charge
The reason I asked about CF is they guarantee the information in their reports regarding miles and title.

Actually I went back to the place where I got my oil changed..they ran my vin # and for some reason the only maintainance that it showed this time was when I brought it in for an oil change..i can't explain that...i know what it showed before..maybe the first time they accidentally typed in the wrong vin #...so the biggest concrete evidence is the car lot I spoke to verified they sold the car Jan.2017 and it had 144,664 miles..i bought it in June 2019 and it had 123,000.(I verified the mileage it had by my contract)..so I am waiting to hear back from my lawyer..ill post updates as I get them..and thank you to everyone that has replied to this thread!!
Get some paper documentation with those miles from the dealer!
