My A4 B7 won't start

Asked by Mrottiers May 02, 2014 at 01:09 AM about the 2008 Audi A4 2.0T quattro Sedan AWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

It makes a clacking noise when you turn the key but it doesn't crank. Battery is good, all
the lights come on but it won't crank to start. It happened a few weeks ago for the first
time after I tried fixing my tail light (wich turns out it had shorted) but after a couple of
hours it started. Since then I replaced the taillight bulb tray that shorted and no problems
until today that the car is doing the same thing.

Try Checking your solenoid on the starter. The wire that runs from the solenoid to the main points in the starter tends to rot off from salt. This may be the likely culprit. If not try checking the wires to the tray that was shorting out and maybe try checking the other tray on the opposite side. this should not in turn cause a fault in starting i think tho. try checking for a code as well if you got a code reader and post it back here.
