Need help use car for work

Car is standard has minimal power in first and
shift to second maintains speed but rpms will go
up on acceleration and speed doesn't rise. Revved
it in driveway and my friend had his hand over
exuast and losses pressure after a few seconds

Usually when the RPM of the engine rise and the car does not move or accelerate means that the clutch is slipping, and the same thing with an automatic trany, but there are more than one clutch in an automatic.
