Somehow we've lost both of our Smart keys at different times. I have no idea where it disappeared to but we have young kids so likely the last one was at the hands of one of them. Anyway, if I have only a valet key cut, will it start the car or does it need to be programmed as well? Not having much luck finding out with Google.

No it won't start the car. You need the RFID transponder key to start and run the vehicle. The KEY doesn't need to be programed the cars computer has to have the new KEYS CODE entered into its computer to start. Cost can very less that $100 is fair. THIS is all "hidden" info googles not going to have much about it.. "except Call the dealer or a locksmith". Regards
