Chevy Cobalt ENG PWR REDUCED

Asked by Reedie Feb 22, 2016 at 09:16 PM about the 2009 Chevrolet Cobalt LS Sedan FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Hey there,
I have a 2009 Chevy Cobalt bought used a year ago from a
dealership near me. It has about 81,000 miles on it and just
recently started messing up. My car will start heating up to
about 200F-206F when idle. The normal running temp I had
logged before all this was 190F. Then whenever I start
moving from a standstill, my car will get thrown into limp
mode with ENG PWR REDUCES message on readout . I
have no acceleration at all at that point. Does anyone know
what could be causing this? Taking it to Autozone
tomorrow to get codes. Just thought I'd ask.

Hi I used to get my car overheating all the time until I replaced the thermostat and I made sure I got the coolant compartment completely full, because if you get it half it will give you problems and today I got that message in my readout too after I replaced and install a new radio, so there is red cable begin the radio where all those bunch of cables that I had to cut and isolated it and the message went away. And 200 to 209 f when the car is Ilse is fine.

I Reedie, the same thing happened to me... The garage cannot figure it out. What needed to be fixed on your car in order to get rid of that issue?

@GuruTCWM1 I don't understand exactly what you were saying about a red cable being cut and isolated or begin at the radio... Please explain your solution with more details or a step by step tutorial guide and reasoning as well as in a manner in which most people who are seeking possible answers and solutions may be able to easily comprehend and or understand because i know i couldn't personally make out what you were trying to explain....thank you
