Car Stalling at stop lights?? Help:((
Asked by Carnoob88 May 02, 2017 at 11:26 PM about the 2009 Chrysler Sebring Touring Sedan FWD
Question type: Maintenance & Repair
Oh let's see. My car has been stalling on
me for a while now probably a year plus. It
only stalls when idle or at a red light or
stop sign. Sometimes my car does not
want to accelerate past 60mph unless i
stop and restart my car. My RPM also
seems out of whack and jumps up and
down alot while driving and idling. When
my car stalls and shuts off the oil light and
the thunder bolt light come on sometimes
both sometimes just one of the lights. 3
different mechanics told me it's the
alternator (car was also making a loud
rattling noise) so I finally ended up getting
that fixed the noise went away but the
stalling has not :))) at this point I just want
to pull my hair out. What the hell could the
problem be?!? (117,000 miles on it)

Also forgot to mention that my check engine light is always on and very frequently flickers
I'm combing the internet trying to find an article I read about a year ago about this issue. I have it, too, on the 2008 Touring convertible. The article said it could be fixed by checking for a loose cap or connection on something under the chassis. If I find the article I'll post it here.
Did you ever find the article??
I'm having the same issue with my 2008 chrysler sebring a week ago was also at a red light and i turned it back on everything was fine but also have been having RPMs going up and down sometimes engine revs while foot is on the brake peddel... trying to find a solution to the problem
You described exactly what's been going on with mine. I'm going to check my other computer that's been in storage where I think I might have stored the article on the loose cap/connection.
Ok...so I had what sounds like the same issue....04 sebring..stalled randomly at stops....but starts right back up....also 02 sensors coded out....turns out it was an ignition coil intermitant fault that caused the car to stall(no codes) but the un burned gas was triggering the 02 codes....cheap fix...58$ at advance and about 10 min to swap part
I have a 2002 Sebring convertible with about 138,000 miles. Stalling, not starting, and hesitation problems developed. Replaced the crankshaft position sensor ($35) and all the problems were solved.
Sorry, I still haven't found the article. But there have to be a limited number of valves with caps that are right under the chassis. I did tell it to my mechanic but when he checked out my car he didn't find any missing caps. I was having other problems with electronic warning lights, so the reply above by GURUZ5FNV might have been the problem. I never solved it and traded in the car last year for a Volvo. fyi Sebring had about 55,000 miles on it
My 2004 sebring conv has issue of stalling when idle, I thought it was a low rpm problem.

It might be engine magnetic sensor (crank sensor). It is cheap to replace. With this my mechanic flushed and reprogrammed the throttle body. It fixed the problem.
