F-250

Asked by Abdiel89 Feb 14, 2016 at 04:07 PM about the 2009 Ford F-250 Super Duty FX4 Crew Cab 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My 09 f250 will not start acts as if it's not getting
enough juice to turn the motor. The starter sounds
weak and both batteries were tested and are good.
But I'm a little confused because if it was the starter
it wouldn't try to turn over right?

yes 50 or more amps require an HUGE surface area...unfortunately batteries have ACID and those dopes spread Calcium Chloride which eats them up like the last of the turkey...and leaves you with corrosion...which heats up, but does not deliver the 50 amps ....look at how FAT those cables are...to deliver WELDING strength current amperage ain't getting through the corrosion...please grab your wirebrush and un-bolt all the electric connections...then make 'em all nice and shiny and put them together...a dab of vaseline or axle grease to keep all that nasty salt away will help too~

Well the battery posts are clean and the truck was trying to start just fine while it was hooked up to another truck and then it just quit and I haven't been able to get it to turn over since

someone possibly jumped backwards...neg to pos, pos to neg for a sec was enough to discharge the battery...also if older then ten years, will stop taking a charge very well too...My pop is the Engineer who got the LEAD out of car battery design~ if backwards jump had been done...possibly diodes got killed~

One of the batteries is new....I haven't boosted the truck since I got the batteries back from charging and testing...the truck still has a weak turn over....do u think I still need to boost it?

hmm, New, eh? weak? would not take a boost, the other vehicle may try to kill your battery....LOAD test the battery (that means a resistance wire basically puts a dead-short on for a couple of seconds an then checks to see how did it do? so if the battery survives the LOAD TEST that your autoparts store or a neighborhood mechanic could do, we could see definitively that the battery needs replacement...they only last 10 years anymore anyways~ so no jumpstarts...they can be risky~ besides once having jumpstarted the battery, what then? have to impose on other folks at the parking lot? AAA will fix you up for free, if you've got a membership~ not sure what to say...ONE of the batteries is NEW...use that one!~

jeez, you never said that it was a Diesel~ do you have trouble starting when cold?...that would be the Glow Plugs~
