Pistol broke....can it be because of oil change gone wrong?

Asked by camaro2ssgirl May 05, 2015 at 03:30 PM about the 2010 Chevrolet Camaro 2SS Coupe RWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2010 camaro2ss with only 34,000
miles in it. It has always has it's oil change
on time and have never had a problem with
it. I recently got a oil change at a Chevy
delearship and the receipt said they put 8
quarts of synthetic oil so I signed and paid
for it. At about 2000 miles later one
morning, I tuned the car on, let it warm up
and the car was fine when I reversed. My
car is stick shift so as I put it on first
gear...my car started jerking and felt as if it
had no power at all. I turned it around and
when I put it on neutral to turn into my drive
it turned off. I turned it back on and it made
a tapping/ clicking noise and my car did not
want to turn on anymore.I got my car towed
to my best friends husband mechanic shop
and he checked it for free. When he asked
to turn it off, they immediately asked to turn
it off and checked the oil and it was low so
they put about 1 quart and half and the car
turned on but was still making a noise.
They did a compression test and it turns
out there was a piston broken and they
head gasket...they said it was the fault of
the low oil..could this have been the
dealerships fault when they did the oil
change for not putting enough or what
could have caused it? And what exactly is
wrong when that is broken?

If it is a "Broken piston" then the engine must be removed, dismantled and inspected to determine the cause of the failure. The 6.2 in the SS Camaro is a well made engine and not prone to leaking with so few miles, it's a good possibility the oil change monkey didn't do his job properly.
