Overheating

Thermostat was sticking so I fix the thermostat.
IKeep oil and water in my car but sadly I have to
put water in my car everyday from overheating fix
the water hose also. Don't have a leak. Thermostat
goes up to hot sometimes car wont start.has a
funny smell is overheating.what could it be? I got
told head gasket maybe?How much for part?

If the engine is consuming water and not blowing it out into the overflow tank, then that would likely indicate a blown head gasket. Cost varies depending on the engine but it's mostly labor. The Gasket is relatively cheap (+/-$50), but if you've got the head off, that's the time to do a valve job, if needed, for just the incremental cost since the heads already off. A guesstimate for an inline 6-cyl would be around $450 from a local guy, $850 from a dealer.
