My 2002 540 has just started not cranking in cold weather, I have to basically pat the gas pedal for minutes at a time until it warms

Hard to diagnose just from this. Things I would check/do 1. Check your battery. 2.Check your alternator for good charge.3.Change your fuel filter. 4.Give it some 93octance gas (also add a bottle of HEET)
