If there is a problem with the alternator the battery will run down and the vehicle will not start. The fuel filter is under the vehicle, on the frame, near the drivers side door. Half the size of a beer can. Special tools are required to remove it. First, check the fuel pump. You will need a guage which will attached to the injector rail. Hook it up and turn the key to the on position. Pressure should be present, you'll have to look the correct pressure reading. Now start the car. Let it idle. If the fuel pressure drops when the engine kills the pump is bad.

My answer? 2002 Ford explorer must be THE WORSE VEHICLE EVER PRODUCED, I WILL NEVER EVER BUY A FORD, I have spent more than $6000 on this pos, I have literally rebuilt it from the ground up, I just put new tires, new brakes, new wheels bearings, and now, now it dies after 5 minutes. Ford makes the worse cars ever. I hope Ford goes bankrupt
