Engine whine

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I own a 2012 Honda Civic LX and I installed a LED headlight kit and
unfortunately one of the wires was not secured very well and got caught in
the serpentine belt. It actually cut the wire. Anyway, ever since then, my car
makes a high pitched whine sound that changes with engine RPM. Kind of
sounds like a whistling sound. That's the best way to describe it. It goes
away when the AC is turned on, which is odd. It does seem to come from the
AC compressor area.

The issue ended up being the AC compressor, specifically the bearings in the AC compressor clutch pully. Unfortunately, no mechanic in my area would work on just the pully, so I had to have the entire compressor replaced. Ended up installing a non OEM one and it's noisy as hell and makes a grinding noise, but at least it's fixed. I definitely don't recommend using non OEM parts, but I plan on selling this vehicle very soon, so I'm just glad it's fixed.
