Turn signal flash speed with and without trailer connected.

I have recently had a hitch and trailer wiring installed on my 2012 Ford Escape. All lights
function correctly except the turn signals. Without the trailer connected, flasher speed is
normal. With the trailer connected, flasher speed is ~2X faster. Is there a circuitry part I
need to replace/upgrade?

Yes. You need a 'heavy duty" flasher, that will work for trailer lights extra load of bulbs. When extra bulbs are added it cycles faster. But the same flasher will still work normally when you don't have trailer hooked up, the best place to buy them is at an RV dealer
