2012 Malibu LT 2.4 What does MFI1 and MFI0 mean?
My Fiance's Malibu has a a/c compressor clutch that has sheared and
started making scraping noise. When I move the clutch it seem to be
moving back and forth around the bolt to the compressor not just around
the bolt. Found metal particles on the frame below it. Noticed that there is
only 1 inch between the frame and the front of the a/c compressor because
the engine is sideways under the hood. I would love to just be able to
switch out the a/c compressor clutch and just spend a $100 plus a new belt
but that probably is not the best way to go. Is there another way to live
without the a/c for now like removing the pulley and getting a different size
belt or something for the time being? If not what do you recommend to
replace including names of all parts? I was told to take it to a shop and let
them do this because I might as well replace the compressor and other
components due to contamination of metal particles in the a/c system and
the fact that the system has to be drained and filled again. I don't
understand much of the a/c system and don't have much time due to
school and work. I tried looking up the difference between and MFI1 and
MFI0 but couldn't find anything after searching a few minutes. I was looking
at buying a compressor and for the same year model if I switched that I
had a MFI 1 or 0 one would work and one said it was not compatible with
the engine. What's the difference and how can I tell which engine we have.
I am decently knowledgeable and capable of doing repairs on older
vehicles but this engine has no room to work on the compressor unless I
remove the bolts holding it on and try to get as much slack from the lines
as possible. Just very little space where it is at. Thanks in advance.
