The mechanic said that the code that came up 3 times was for the de-icer set ( I think). It's a very expensive part, but low cost to install. Does that make sense?

It does not make sense to me. Get the codes read at the parts store, write down the number and put it in a new question. We will determine what is wrong and possible solutions.
It's code 1312, combustion detection on cylinders 1 & 2. I guess this was a common problem in SAABs in earlier years, but they said they had fixed it. It still happens once in awhile and just my luck.
Any code with P1xxx is product specific. I did find something on a Swedish Saab forum that lead me to believe that the part could be a spark plug coil. Something about a small repair using a Phillips head screwdriver and try replacing the spark plug first.
