I've had a few Ford Escapes and never had that problem. Probably a bunch of salt from the road got struck up there.
actually there's alot in the canadian world to the point where the shock towers were causing BANGING noises because there was no upper tower left
It's got to be the salt. Sad to say but I seriously doubt that Ford will do anything for you.

I would like to know if fore has yet to take responsibiltiy for this dangerous problem or does someone have to die first from losing control of their vehicle.

This is a huge problem and Ford needs to take responsibility and do a recall asap. Very dangerous and very expensive problem to fix.

This problem cost me only 164.99 plus shipping. I got the repair kit from BSSautoparts.com,followed the instructions up until the part where you use fiberglass and resin to fill it in and used aluminum sheet ing that was on hand to form the whole patch then pop riveted it in and used flexseal spray on the outside and was back on the road in an hour and a half...easy peasy....and economical as well.
