Overheating on a freezing cold morning?

Asked by Alwood97 Feb 20, 2015 at 10:52 AM about the 2004 Dodge Stratus SXT Coupe FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

maybe 10 minutes after start up i
was going down the road and temp
gauge went from cold to all the way
past the red hot line and the temp
light came on, so i pulled
over as fast as i could and put her in
park, and then the temp gauge went
back to normal and the light went off,
I instantly thought to take her back
home and all the way home she was
fine and still fine right now, only
problem is I don't have any heat,
keep in mind that is 7 degrees as
well, could the weather temperature
have something to do with it?

Sounds like you are out of fluid. Check all of your fluid reservoirs. Jug and radiator. If you have plenty of fluid, I would change out the thermostat. 99% of the time, that's the issue.

It also happens when the coolant freezes if you don't have the right coolant/water proportions.
