my 2004 stratus was involved in a front end collision, as a result i have to replace the condenser. how do i disconnect the damaged one and re-istall the new?

No matter how you connect it you'll have to recharge the system. The fittings from the old lines should still work. Normally to replace an AC part you would have to recover the refrigerant, but if your condenser was damaged, I suspect it already leaked out. Disconnecting the refrigerant lines from the old condenser can be done with a wrench.

Know your fitting type. pic it with your phone. release tools and o-rings needed. then continuous vacuum pump and ac gauges for R-134a needed. without the tools it should remain capped till you are ready. You need to have the refrigerant oil for it, the refrigerant and its total amount determined. It is best to have it done by an ac certified shop do do all that right, not introduce damp air, get the right oil and the right amount, using the tools and o-rings to get it installed, sealed properly,evac-ed, and leak down tested, then filled. If you do not do ac work, ask a shop to install. Then they can also work with the compressor, the ac cooling fan, and check pressures and operation of evaporator controls.

You can ask your body shop and parts supplier who to ask in your area for help. many shops are available with the machines to simplify the replacement. Having an experienced and certified tech can be the most important part of simplifying the repair.
