If I take it out of park and then put it back in park it will start. Issue does not
happen all the time. Any ideas on what may be causing the issue?

there's some kind of switch/sensor that won't let you start it unless it is in park , it's worn or lever is loose , just nudge it into park next time

I don't know. I haven't tried putting it in neutral. I'm considering purchasing the vehicle but trying to determine how difficult this issue will be to fix.

well, let us know if it starts in neutral every time and we can point you in the right direction

for me that would be a red flag and I would shop elsewhere , you can never know the true condition of a used car you have to use instinct

if the seller gets upitty because of what I told you then definitely walk away
Had the same issue and turnes out to be the cable linkage. The clips holding it on are make of plastic and is known to fail.
