fuel filter

yesterday I had a little difficulty starting my car it sounded like it wasn't getting fuel. Today it started and ran no problem
could it be a dirty fuel filter ? should I worry about this.
is the filter under the hood or under the back seat I did a quit glance and couldn't see the filter under the hood maybe I missed it
