If the steel cable is there and you can get ahold of it, use a pair of vice-grips and pull on the cable. Sometimes it helps to have helper standing at the end of hood, where the latch mechanism is located, have them pop the hood with palm of hand in that area, at the same time as you pull, it may help? If all else fails, see if you can get to the under-hood latch by removing the front grille, if possible. Then maybe you can work the latch, that way?

Easier said than done. My 2017 Fusion has a fiber engine plate guard and plastic front bump shroud that prohibits access. You would need to remove the both these item just to get access. There is a YouTube video showing how to unlock the hood through the grill on a 2013 model which I tried on my 2017 that is completely different from the 2013 models. Believe me I tried. I have an appointment at the Ford Dealer. I think the best plan would be to take the front wheels off and enter through the wheel well. You will have to remove plastic rivets. Nothing on these newer cars is easy like the good old days when you open the hood and see an engine, air cleaner, distributor, plug wires, battery, etc. Now all I see is plastic and hoses.

I’ve had nothing but problems with my 2018 fusion. I live in the country In Arizona and the packrats almost destroyed my engine in one day. We have 4 vehicles here and I’m constantly fighting the rats away from my wiring on the entire of this car. I have to continually move lights, traps, switch between Cheyanne pepper, peppermint etc to keep them away. My hood latch isn’t working now so I’m freaking out. I literally hate this car to my bones.

I gotta agree with Guru9S94Q... I hate this car. First we had to replace the purge valve. Seemed to work beautifully for about two weeks. Then it would just shut off mid-driving... very dangerous, and since this is my 17 yr old's car, I wanted to get it fixed ASAP. So we narrow it down to a fuel sensor. So I order the sensor. It comes in the mail today. I go to pop the hood to swap out the sensor AND THE F-ING HOOD SWITCH WON'T WORK. It has been something ALL the time with this vehicle and I'm sick to death of it. My son is just going to trade it in... we can't afford to keep messing with this car.
