Why use it, it basically does nothing. Oil changes at the recommended intervals, tune up at the recommended interval and clean fuel is all it needs. ZMAX = lighter wallet.

It is my understanding that 4 cys have a higher revolution ratio to 8cys to enhance horsepower which in turn creates higher friction. Zmax helps reduce friction and heat increasing performance/mileage etc.

I guess it's your engine and if you want to put sand in the crankcase, just do it. Not real sure why you even asked the question.
If you're TRULY this concerned about the higher RPM's in a 4 cylinder vs V6 or V8...just use Full Synthetic Oil and avoid Synthetic Blend and regular oil. I used Full Syn in my old MX-5 Miata because it was a VERY rev happy engine and with a 6 speed manual trans, that engine loved to rev all the way to the redline! I never felt the need to add anything like ZMAX at all...and the Miata revs a helluva lot higher and more frequently to its redline than a Ford Escape.
In case you didn't know, the Mazda MX-5 Miata has a 4 cylinder...a 2.0 Liter DOHC, to be exact.
