Dodge Neon non running for months during repairs. New temp senser installed, as soon as car started it indicated temp was very high when it couldn't have been. What is the problem?

Js08016, ty so much for responding! Husband worked so hard to get the repair work he did PERFECT, & this seems to be the only issue keeping me from taking the car out of the garage for the 1st time in 6 months! Husband also says THANKS & will trace the wire back. After all the work he's put into my car, it seems like there has to be a simple fix for this d*mn sensor! I will let you know how your great suggestion works out for us.

Jim, you were RIGHT! 3 teeny wires, awkward angle, shorting out. He redid how the wires were laying and the gauge shot straight back down to cold, as it should be when you 1st start a car! Whoopee! Happy dance! I'm about 3 hours away from my independence! That car has been down since Jan or so! He has to put the right tire back on and bleed both the radiator and the power steering unit, & I'm good to go! TYVM for your answer, Jim. Much appreciated.
