What is the high pitched squeaking noise? Belts?

Asked by e8285 May 19, 2013 at 12:19 AM about the 1993 Dodge Stealth ES FWD

What could be causing this and what can I do?

I'd check the bearings on the belt tensioner...go ahead and replace them and get a new belt too~

I agree with O13. Use a piece of PVC pipe or vacuum cleaner extension hose and hold one end to your ear and carefully position the other end in and around your pulleys. The noise will increase as you get close to the one that is bad. While doing this if the noise appears to be coming from behind the plastic guards about half way down the middle of the engine on the drivers side it will be your timing belt tensioner. Hope this helps.
