Asked by jape70 Aug 06, 2020 at 08:32 PM about the 1989 Ford F-150 XLT Lariat Standard Cab LB

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Situation: Turning over, not starting.

Background:
-Batt = 11.8V
-LPFP/HPFP/fuel filter check out.
-New rotor/cap, cables and plugs with 0.53 gap.
-Code 22 '1' 22 (Baro Pressure Out of Range)
Reference Voltage on the MAP Sensor on the VREF is 5.0
2.5 on the backprobe
Vacuum test indeterminate.

Actions:
Changed MAP Sensor. She fired up immediately with strong idle. The moment
I 'slammed' closed the hood, it died.
Currently: Turns over, not starting. Performed wiggle tests and visual of the
harness; nothing obvious.

Recommendations?

Also, what would be a lower-than-normal resistance?

The fact it was idling fine but killed when you slammed the hood would appear to indicate a wiring/connection problem. If she cranks, but does not start, all you can do is check fuel pressure when key is on/cranking along with spark at the plugs during cranking. Not a difficult procedure.
