I have to disconnect the negative battery cable to be able to turn off the headlights

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Headlights worked ok for a time.  It was raining hard & they would not go off without me taking the negative cable loose.   I have to reconnect to start the engine or wind the windows.  This goes on all day, all night.  The damn hood must weigh 100 lbs, & this is getting very old.  Any advice?
