waterpump installation changing MPG

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I had to have my water pump replaced.  Since I have had the car it has
always run at or above 30-32MPG on my gauge   Sice the repair which was
Monday the gauge clocks in at about 22.  Cannot get it to go higher.  I called
the mechanic to see if what he did would affect that and he just said no.  
What do you think>  Thanks

What engine in this vehicle? Any warning lights on or flashing when the engine is running?

Well....if you had decent gas mileage BEFORE the repair....and now you don't...Seems to me the repair person screwed up. I would be inclined to recheck the Timing Belt/Chain installation. It might be one tooth out of time.
