Gear lever jams on starting

Asked by Guru9P8Q5 Jul 15, 2017 at 05:42 AM about the 2015 Ford F-250 Super Duty Lariat Crew Cab 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

So I have 2015 f250 diesel 4x4. 39k miles 1 1/2 yrs
new from dealer.
Last week, I turned key in ignition, started fine, but
gear lever was jammed and would not budge. Took
my foot off break , put it back on break and lever
worked. ???  I have always always had my foot on
the break when I turn key in ignition.  Ford tech tried
to tell me I should Not  have my foot on break pedal
when starting my truck even though I have done it
my entire driving life (u learn this when u start in a
stick shift)
They first said the can't replicate in the shop so I
had to drive back to show them. It happens now
100% of the time - go figure why they couldn't
replicate - a week  later they still don't know - now
maybe it's a break sensor switch- I'm afraid is a
symptom of something bigger going on? Thoughts

I've noticed a several do this, I've just done as they say. Don't put your foot on the brake as you start it. It has to do with the way the pcm unlocks the lever, it waits for the brake input, but if it's already pressed then it doesn't see the action if that makes sense.
