I HAVE A 2001 FORD ESCORT ZX2. THE SERVICE ENGIN LIGHT CAME ON. I DROVE IT FOR A FEW DAYS. ON MY WAY HOME THE ENGINE STARTED TO LOSE POWER AND FINALLY DIED OUT. I COULD NOT GET IT RESTARTED. HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED. ANY IDEAS ON WHAT IT COULD BE ?

this could be a lot of thingssssssssssssssssssssss..really need to know if the timing belt was done at all...gas cap or accidently overfilling the tank would put an evaporative code up there~ Just an 02 sensor would not kill the car~
Anybody's guess and an answer without troubleshooting and being in front of the car just leads to throwing money down the drain. A bad alternator will do as you described and run the battery down to where it won't start. But it could be a lot of things. You have to get the battery voltage. You have to get a code scanner on it and read the codes. You have to check the fuel pressure.
