Ford Explorer tail light cover

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

The plastic cover on the left taillight on my Ford Explorer is broken. I only need
the cover. The lights all work fine and there is nothing broken under the cover.
Ford dealer can only get the entire assembly for $944.00
  Why?  or where can I get only the red plastic cover unit separately?

pull one from your local junk yard? that would be cheapest route . or try ordering from rock auto

If you can get it apart and glue it, I would do as Ed92626 described. Even the salvage yard folks are not stupid and they will likely be about half of the Ford price - still outrageous in my opinion.
